TechEd 2008 – Day 4

I woke up this morning in a shocking state. No, not what you expected, no hangovers ( i know better to consume large amounts of alcohol at Work functions) but I was had sore feet, knees and ankles. eek, I have been spending far too much time standing up…

Sessions

OCS

This was a further look into OCS. The more I see of this, the more I can see a fit for our organisation. It comes down to convincing the Bean-counters to release a few moths

Server 2008 & Hyper-V

I wanted to get a look at at least one Hyper-V session while I was here. We are on a ESX platform here so this was more out of my own curiousity than anything else. It does look good and I have no doubt that it will keep getting better and better as each quarter passes. If we were starting to Virtualise now, I would give this serious consideration, especially the Hyper-V Server when it comes out ( as opposes to the currently available Server 2008 with Hyper-V) as it will cost $26.. $26 bucks for a HyperVisor… hard to argue with that..

SmackDown!!

This was one of the sessions that I was looking forward to…. It is just a high-energy raw Party disguised as a session. This year’s theme was the M-Team, with disguises, photoshopped videos and all…. and plenty of swag, loads of swag being thrown about… The Samsung range of WM devices look pretty good as well as the HTC’s and the Palm Treo 800x that is due to launch soon…. One day I will get these chumps off Blackberry and onto real devices….

Closing Locknote

This was an interesting speech by Miha Kralj the Senior Architect on the Platform team. he gave a fascinating insight into what we could expect in IT in the near future. It was a great presentation that was tempered by humourous stories and personal references, everything a good presentation should be. it was a good way to finish the Conference.

and to that, i then departed for the Airport. 3 gate Changes and and hour of delays, i finally get in the air and on the way home….
