Here’s an interesting article on IT Managers and whether they are innovators or inhibitors..
We expect IT managers to be innovators, so why do so many become inhibitors?

One reason is that many of them have evolved into IT operations managers.

Through no fault of their own, the overwhelming responsibility for preserving the integrity of existing infrastructure, and daunting portfolio of internal projects that build on or extend the installed technology, killed off any serious capacity to innovate. At the same time, more and more workers have been exposed to powerful and capable systems and are aware of their potential to enhance their part of the business.
